6. Killing us softly

I was thinking about the title, and what it meant but I couldn't have figured out what it meant, till now. In my opinion she was trying to say that the advertisements are slowing the degree of women slowly, day by day. Well, It isn't hard to realize that, and I don't know why I haven't realized it while watching. First of all, Jean Kilbourne is a great presenter =). Her jokes made me laugh a lot, especially switching sides of men and women in advertisements - too giggly, to flat -. Yes, Women are absolutely right about being offended about those advertisements. I know I would be offended. Secondly, like in every place in advertisement women are marked. All the women in advertisements is perfect in every way, in a way that no women can be without any working up. And finally, women are shown as an object in the advertisements, not a subject. So all in all, the advertisements has to be changed completely. Everyone should pretest these kind of advertisements.

5. Presentations!!

As you know 2 days ago we did our presentation and to be honest I was a little nervous about whether the presentation would be succesful or not because the presentations that were before us were both extremely detailed and covered all points. I could say I learned a lot from them, not only the things that are told in the presentation, but also learned how to ımprove my presentation. Feedbacks also would help a lot to our final presentation ofcourse. I want to share what I've learned with this practise presentation:
1. Your group needs to be well organised and you need some kind of a division of labour.
2. You need to do a detailed research about the things you are going to mention in presentation.
3. You need to study what you are going to say in the presentation, not memorizing but keeping some keywords in your mind is an extra in fluent talking, which is good for presenting. =)
4. You and your partners have to know all the things are mentioned in presentation, not only your part.
5. Giving some examples from daily life helps the oudience to be more focused.
6. Joke is a great plus in presentation.
Well, these are only my opinions =) If you could add more suggestions they can help a lot.

4.Tough guise

the film tough guise really made me think about where this costume came from. I first thought the purpose of this film was to show the violence done by men to women. But after thinking over it i realized the films idea was to show the insecurity of men. We men cover our insecurities by disguising into another person.
At class we talked about violence and when it started. I think violence is inside us. It is an instictive behaviour. It is a reaction to your emotions. It will stay us till the ambition inside us is gone. And if it is an instictive behaviour, there is nothing we can do to destroy it.Yes that is true, but we can make it less effective. Instead of fighting we can shout. Instead of shouting we can express our feelings with calmly. Violence can't be stopped, but sure can be less effective.

3. Show or Film?

I was reading to Onur's blog and he was talking about a reality show that is about another reality show. You can read that blog from here. That and made me think about what is reality show. Is a reality show still a reality show when everyone knows the things are done there not real? If the people are acting in those shows, what makes them different then Jim Carrey? Since most reality shows are scam and role playing then Truman Show was a reality show too. I just got confused myself could you help me please?

2. Time passed so quickly

I am in my classroom right now and I'm just so amazed to see how time passes so quickly =). Many people said it before but I had never believed them, till now. Sonja just told us that half of the lessons are over with her and I'm writing my second post. OMG!! I guess I will have to try harder on bloggs for a while. I should learn something from my mistake, let me think... well guys, do your job on time and blog weekly or you will have to write blogs instead of... well not blogging.
Well, in the half of the semester we learned a lot. In my opinion we haven't just learned english, but also some things which are cultural. We've learned about the veyeurs in our society, Reality Tv watchers etc. I'm really glad to learn how to spell paranthesis.

1. Voyeurism with an enormous raido

"The enormous radio" was written by John Cheever in 1947. I was a little surprised when I read it was such an old story. It represents one of the major problems in our society; voyeurism at another persons life. It is realy sad that behaviour still exists whether 50 years pasts or not. It was the same when there were less education, it is the same with more civilized comminities and more educated persons. I mean of course educated people can limit themselves and dont interrupt another persons life, but there has to be some progress in the education level in 50 years. So it made me think that voyeurism is an instictive behaviour.
